    1. This might not be technically a light novel — it’s probably more accurate to just call it a children’s novel from Japan. Many of these books have a look extremely similar to light novels.

I imagine it just didn’t sell well enough. Seven Seas discontinued all of their LNs around that time.

  1. Where can I find copies of these books. 1.The pirate and the princess- 2.the limelight stone- 3.the sea and the dragon’s tears the red crystal # 2. thank you

    1. Hi Donna,
Unfortunately, only book #1 in this series (The Pirate and the Princess: The Timelight Stone) was ever published in English before the series was cancelled by its English-language publisher. #2 (The Red Crystal) and #3 (The Sea Dragon’s Tears) were apparently close to release when this happened, as they had ISBN numbers assigned and were listed on many book marketplaces. However, to our knowledge, no English-language copies of these books were ever printed or sold.

This appears to have happened a number of times with series that were planned for release before digital publishing emerged as a less financially-risky alternative to paper-and-ink publishing. Hopefully the new generation of publishers will consider relicensing some of these titles as they grow more confident in the new marketplace.

I for one would pre-order all the remaining books in the series if they got licensed today (and I’d buy the first one again if it got a new translation)! Even if this series is aimed at young kids, this was exactly the kind of genuine fantasy I look for in light novels!

  2. I play the role of Santa at a Mall. One request that I received was “The Pirate and the Princess”, The Red Crystal.
I told the girl and her father that I would do whatever possible to procure the book myself or at least get the address from a bookstore that would have it. All the bookstores that I got in touch with didn’t have or was on backlog. I called and/or got on their web sites.
Now I have an answer to give them when I see them this year that will let them know that Santa did not let them down for the lack of trying. This was very important for me.
