Synopsis: Ever since a terrible childhood tragedy, Minoru Utsugi has wished for one thing: solitude. Years later, a bizarre encounter leaves a mysterious artifact in Minoru’s body that grants his wish–but that’s far from the end of his troubles. Others have been visited and given powers like Minoru’s, but their twisted desires are not so benign. When a murderous force threatens the people Minoru holds dear, will his newfound abilities be enough to stand in its way? And can there be a future for someone who craves eternal solitude above all else? The story of the Isolator begins here!

  1. I love the first volume, and I just ordered the second. A interesting thing about this series is that about half of the novel is written from the point of the antagonist, so when the eventual battle between protagonist and antagonist happens, there’s actual weight behind it. I’ve never read a light novel where so much development was put into the bad guy. I enjoy it.

The third volume, “The Trancer”, was just published in Japan on February 10th.

    1. I also appreciated that aspect of the novel, and am curious if that focus is applied in subsequent volumes. I still need to pick up volume 2, but I plan to get around to it at some point.

  2. In my copy of the first volume it says the translator is Adair Trask, however, the second volume is apparently translated by ZephyrRz

    1. Reki Kawahara is juggling multiple light novel series, so that’s no surprise. I still need to catch up on what’s available anyways though, so I’m fine with him taking his time on Isolator.
