Synopsis: A girl out of time, a fish out of water. Alchemists used to be a dime a dozen in the Kingdom of Endalsia, so Mariela was never particularly special. But her skills were put to the test one fateful day when a horde of monsters came stampeding from the nearby forest. In a desperate attempt to escape the horror, the young alchemist put herself in a state of suspended animation that lasted just a little longer than she’d planned — an entire two hundred years! Needless to say, there have been some big changes, and biggest of all: Mariela is now the sole alchemist in the entire kingdom. Her one wish in this strange new environment is to get back her quiet, leisurely, low-key lifestyle!

[…] The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life is a fantasy slice-of-life light novel series that revolves around Mariela, a not-so-talented alchemist of the Kingdom of Endalsia. However, once her city is wiped away by the Stampede and she awakes from her multi-century nap, she becomes the only known alchemist in the entire kingdom. Despite this overwhelming responsibility, she decides that a quiet life is for her and to run a small potion shop instead. From there, we meet a variety of interesting characters and immerse ourselves in many slice-of-life stories and adventuring tales. May I also mention that Labyrinth City is built atop a massive dungeon? If you’re looking for a calm and quiet life amid a world of danger and loss, this one is for you. Usata Nonohara’s story of potions and monsters is filled with light fun and action-packed excitement in a world skillfully illustrated by ox. Drama, romance, action, and comedy are all beautifully bound together to create a one-of-a-kind experience. […]

[…] The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life, Vol. 4 is the latest installment of the fantasy slice-of-life light novel series where we follow the lives of Labyrinth City’s many inhabitants. These stories cover the simple to the complex and from light-hearted to deadly serious. And the appearance of Freya, the legendary(?) Sage of Calamity, gets things heated in the walled city. With Mariela and Sieg recovering from the events of Vol. 3, can the alchemist’s newly awoken mentor rekindle the drowned fire in their hearts? Only time will tell, and it’s not a luxury they can afford. Labyrinth City is undergoing some wide-spread changes, and only one thing is for certain – it’s going to be a lot less quiet at the Sunlight’s Canopy. Usata Nonohara and ox team-up once more to continue their story of potions, grilled orc-meat, and fiery seals. […]

[…] The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life, Vol. 5 is the latest instalment of the fantasy slice-of-life light novel series where Mariela’s dream of a quiet life has extended to everyone around her. In exchange for her alchemy, the City moves to fulfil her wish of peace – a sentiment shared by its denizens. Vol. 5 acts as the climax to our long journey alongside the silly alchemist and her friends. The parallel stories of gathering materials, healing the wounded, and confronting the Labyrinth all flesh out their common trajectory. Will the City fall against the horrors that lurk in the dark depths or will they find the light they sought for 200 years? There’s only one way to find out! Usata Nonohara and ox combine efforts again to finish this tale of potions, legendary heroes, and unfaltering courage. […]
