Are you interested in writing for English Light Novels.com? We are accepting pitches for Reviews and Feature articles.
- Please email us a pitch before proceeding with writing the feature/review so we can let you know your pitch has been accepted.
- We are not opposed to posting reviews/features posted elsewhere. But please make it clear this is the case in your email. Also, include a link to where it was originally published. You must own the republication rights.
- For reviews, we ask guests to review the first volume, or first several volumes, of a series. Reviews can be for titles already reviewed by others on this site. If you have already reviewed the first volume on this site, you can continue to review later volumes in the same series.
- We ask that reviews be kept to titles officially licensed for English release. For feature articles, you are free to mention any title published in Japan whether licensed or not.
- Generally speaking, reviews should be at least 400-700 words. Feature articles can be longer.
- Reviews need to be more than just a summary. Focus more on your own thoughts about the book. A quick rundown of what the light novel is about is fine, but try to keep it to one paragraph.
- For reviews, be careful to not include any spoilers. Feature articles can contain spoilers, but be sure to make it clear in the beginning so readers can choose whether to proceed or not.
- What did you like and dislike about the story? Rather than simply say something about the book is good or bad, try to explain why you feel that something is good or bad.
- Some things you might want to consider: the major themes of the book, the author’s writing style, the pacing, the characters, the setting, the plot, the tone or atmosphere, how unique the light novel is, how much the story resonated with you, and how well you feel the author carried out the purposes of the book. You don’t have to delve into every facet of the story–just the ones you feel are most pertinent or interesting. Feel free to comment on anything you wish, including the illustrations or the quality of the translation.
- A brief summary at the end of your review is always helpful. What kind of readers would enjoy this light novel? Even if you didn’t enjoy the book, consider a person who might.
- We reserve the right to perform a grammar and spell check before publication. If any major revisions are needed, they will be discussed with you before the article is published.
- You may choose to include images in your reviews/features. We ask those images to be kept to a PG-13 level and reserve the right to reject images we think inappropriate for the site. We will generate a feature image for the article so it keeps within the size guidelines we use.
- If you’d like, we can include a link to your personal blog, Twitter, Tumblr, etc in your review/feature.
